Having a good weekend? well I am. When you surf the
internet you see a lot trust me, that's the life of a blogger so no complains.
We all have reservations about our body, how we wish we had a perfect face and
a killer body but we forget that there are people out there who admire the
faults. who wish they had the body you have.
I for one used to feel this way about my body especially my legs, I was
paralyzed when I was 8 years old and remember I to struggled to walk for a year
and had to repeat a class during that time, growing up you would never see me
in anything above my knee because I had scars on my legs and was too ashamed to
show them. I remember my mum used to encourage me a lot saying the scars on my
legs were not visible but it never worked for me because I could see the scars,
this one time my mum gave me some money to go to a photography studio (remember
the days of studios with the chairs, curtains and all the postures you had to
do to get your pictures, yea those days) and my mum asked the photographer to
take pictures of my legs just to make me know that the scars weren't visible.
well I am proud of my legs now, i can never stop showing them off. well I still
have my "Chinese bum" yes I call it that but that doesn't mean i want
to change anything about it and it doesn't mean I see myself as
"Perfect".
Anyways! back to the reason for this post, during my random searches on the
internet, I came across a girl with so much birthmarks, like literally covered
in birthmarks but she didn't care, she didn't love herself less or let the
bullies get to her.
19-year-old Ciera Swaringen, was born with Giant Congenital
Melanocytic Nevus, a dermatological condition that leads large moles to appear
on more than two-thirds of her body. The birthmarks cover her legs, torso, and
face, giving her skin a very unique appearance that she has, sadly, been
bullied for throughout childhood.
"One day I remember being on the school bus and hearing a young boy
laugh at me and call me a spotty dog, that really knocked my confidence. It
made me feel different to the other kids, like something was wrong with
me."
The bullying continued into her high school years.
"Teenage boys are usually the first ones to comment when they see
me," Swaringen added. "They say things like, 'You look like you're
dirty.'
But the recent high school graduate doesn't let the cruel
comments get her down and is "so proud to be different."
Her self assurance is something we could all take cues
from: "At the end of the day, we all have something about us that's
unusual, whether it's on the inside or the outside. Everyone is born to look
different, and we're should all feel beautiful in our own skin."
And you're probably wondering: Can she have the birthmarks
removed? She can't because they are continuously growing — in fact, more and
more will appear over the years. But other than needing to be extra careful
about sun protection, something we should all do, of course Swaringen doesn't
let her skin condition stop her from acting like any other teen, wearing fancy
dresses and cute swimsuits.
While you look in amazement be happy about
your scars, your spots, flaws and imperfections.
I wish we could all see the imperfections in ourselves as
beautiful and love the fact that we have them and it gives us the memories that
we are alive and happy. true we have those negative people that like to point
out our flaws and scars to make us feel bad if only we could smile and say to
them " I really do love that spot or scar you know" I know it's not
easy to say but when we learn to do that we discover that no one can bring us down
and we just love our self and have no complains.
